#GivingTuesday

Did you know that Sand Point Elementary has 2 projects looking for donors up on DonorsChoose.org? We do! Help us fully fund them before they expire in March! All donations are 100% tax-deductible.

We know that many of you give a lot of your time and money to many causes, including Sand Point Elementary, and for that we thank you. If you can help us out by contributing to one or both of our projects this Tuesday, November 28, we (you the donor + our teachers) have the opportunity to win a $5,000 DonorsChoose.org gift card. Last year one of our teachers won one of the $5,000 prizes, which helped us, along with the PTA fully fund all of our projects (the total was $8,203 last year)!

Only two projects are currently listed for Sand Point so far, but as soon as more are posted, we will be sure to get the word out!

  • Let’s Get Cooking in Math! $574 needed for engaging, hands-on math materials such as Number Bars, counters, and number boards to captivate and inspire my mathematicians!
  • Our classrooms have 2 grade levels and a range of learning styles, skill-sets, and interests! We are hoping to utilize these materials to help engage students in math with hands-on materials for lessons and small group work. All of our lessons are taught in small groups, so we need materials that help students work independently as well as instructional materials so that we can teach a range of skills. These materials will help us to teach our students, providing them with manipulatives, games, and activities that reinforce our instruction and solidify math concepts. In this project, we are asking for magnetic fraction bars, number bonds models, bar models that are hands-on, fraction magnets for instruction, dry erase boards, and fraction games for students to work on independently.  Also, as a motivator for our students, we are also requesting cooking utensils so that we can have math lessons centered around cooking! Our fractions unit will be so much more fun with the real-life application with cooking. Students will be able to plan, mix, and make different foods in our classrooms to apply math to daily life!

  • Expand Our Library and Our Minds! $510 needed for texts about Northwest Coastal tribes and salmon to support our social studies lessons!
  • In our classrooms, we are learning about how communities are shaped and developed over time. In the upcoming months, the 2/3 teachers in my school are hoping to align our reading, writing, social studies, and science units so that we can teach about our local tribal nations and their tribal sovereignty. Also, we will study the geography, history, biodiversity, and government of Washington state, relevant to the 2nd and 3rd grade standards. Our hope is that we are able to create an aligned unit and utilize the books in this project to help the unit come alive! Currently, we have limited resources to teach about our state. These books will help our 2 classrooms provide ample texts for students to access to learn about the history, stories, and culture of Coastal Tribes in Washington.

Here’s how it works:

  • Every donation made on November 28, 2017 will give the donor and the teacher they supported one entry into the GIVEaway.
  • Donations may be of any size, and from any source (gift cards, credit cards, Amazon Payments, PayPal, and account credits). Each donor and teacher can be entered up to 20 times.
  • Donations must be made between 12:00:01 AM EST November 28 and 2:59:59 AM EST November 29 in order to be eligible.
  • Winners will be drawn on/about December 6 and notified via email in the following weeks.

If you aren’t able to donate on November 28, we still welcome your donation before the March project deadlines. However, the sooner our projects are fully funded, the sooner the materials can be delivered to the school. Thank you for all that you do to support the students and staff at Sand Point Elementary!
