Seeking Sponsors for Move-a-Thon

We need your help…

Is there a business you frequent, friends you know, or perhaps your place of employment who might consider sponsoring our Move-A-Thon event? Even though we have a superstar fundraiser in our midst, we could use your help in seeking out potential sponsors who could help support our Squirrels.

Sometimes all it takes is someone to ask, provide the info about the school we love, and share the benefits of sponsorship. The Sponsorship Form will provide all they need to know. If you have more questions or ideas about how to further support our Squirrels, please contact Megan Sun McIntosh at Thanks, Squirrel Community!

Volunteer at Sand Point Elementary

Hello Sand Point Elementary Volunteers, AKA the “Squirrel Squad”! We are excited to introduce our 2018-2019 Squirrel Squad swag for volunteers and Sand Point Elementary.

Log 10 volunteer hours to earn a stainless steel SQUIRREL SQUAD WATER BOTTLE!

Be a Sand Point Volunteer!

    • You MUST complete the Seattle Public Schools online volunteer application BEFORE you can be cleared to volunteer at the school. NEWS: We will give you 1 hour of volunteer credit for completing the online volunteer application and mandatory training! (The training, including mandatory video, only takes about 30 minutes to complete! Be sure to follow the tips from the SPS page about what images to have ready when you start your application.)
    • We need volunteers for the following areas: Library, Event Chair, Garden, Earth Day (Spring), Room Parents, and more. What are you interested in? Email us at to get connected with opportunities.
    • Are you interested in being a Room Parent? Room Parents work with the teacher on classroom parties, helping the teacher get volunteers for field trips and other in-class activities, and also act as a liaison for the PTA in communicating with classroom families. If you are interested, talk to your child’s teacher now! This is a volunteer job that can be easily shared.

To log your volunteer hours, we are trying out a QR code. Simply scan this code from anywhere – the Sand Point Front Office, home, work – fill out the quick form, and done! Once you get 10 hours we will get you your very own Squirrel Squad water bottle! Did you volunteer for Sand Point Elementary over the summer or prepping for the school year? Go ahead and log those hours now! And don’t forget to scan the code and log 1 hour for completing your volunteer paperwork.

Instructions for scanning the QR Code:
1. Open the Camera on a smart phone and aim at the code. (For Windows phones, press the Camera button, then tap Lens > Bing Vision and aim at the code.)
2. A google message will appear on your screen; click it.
3. Complete the simple form: First Name; Last Name; Number of Hours (select number 1-6); and Description of volunteer service (select from various options; if you select Other or Special Event, please answer question 4 to describe it).
4. Click submit. Done!

You can also download a QR Code Scanner app for free and install it on your phone. Check Apple Store, Android Store, or Windows Store and search for “free QR scanner”.

We will make the QR code available in the newsletter, on the PTA webpage, and on the PTA Facebook page. Thanks for volunteering!

Need help or don’t have a smart phone? Email for further assistance.

Curriculum Night: Thursday 9/27

Dear Sand Point Families,
Please join us for Curriculum Night this Thursday, September 27th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This is an important opportunity to learn about your child’s school experience. Your child’s classroom teacher will give an overview of what the class is learning. You will also learn what your child does each week in school. A variety of staff will be sharing different elements of your child’s learning experience at Sand Point Elementary. The intended audience for Curriculum Night is parents and other caregivers. If you need to bring your children, the YMCA will be providing childcare for all school aged children in Portable 4. If you plan on using the YMCA childcare during Curriculum Night, please contact the main office at 206-252-4640. This will help us know how many YMCA staff are needed.

Below is the schedule of the sessions that will be offered during Curriculum Night. Please review this, so you can plan out which sessions to attend. Please contact the main office at 206-252-4640 if you have any questions.
We are looking forward to seeing you next Thursday the 27th!
